How to build your own automatic no-drip chicken waterer
Supplies
5 gallon bucket and lid
Nipple waterers
Plumbers sealing tape
Drill and bit
Find a drill bit that matches the diameter of the screw portion of the nipple. Drill multiple holes in the bucket. Keep in mind that nipples at the top of the bucket will not work as the water level drops. I recommend putting the nipples at the bottom of the bucket and elevating the bucket if needed to bring it to a comfortable height for your chickens.
Wrap a layer of plumbers tape around the threads and screw in the nipple so that the collection plate sits at the bottom. Finish with remaining nipples.
Introduce your chickens to the new watering system. Knock the metal tips to fill the collection plate with water to demonstrate how it works. They will be pecking for water in no time.
This project takes less than an hour.
This waterer stays clean and can easily be filled in the run with a hose since the bucket is heavy when full. This waterer lasts more than 2 weeks for my 4 chickens.
