How to make your own automatic no spill chicken feeder

There are tons of options out of there for feeders to purchase or build yourself. I chose to make a 5 gallon bucket feeder. It’s easy to refill, only needs to be refilled every few weeks, and cheap to make.

You will need:

  1. 5 gallon bucket and lid (optional spin off lid for easier refilling)

  2. Drill bit

  3. Elbow feeder pipes

  4. Sand paper

  5. Drill

I ordered a kit from Amazon that came with 4 elbows and the drill bit.

Drill 4 holes in the plastic bucket at varying heights. Keep in mind that as the bucket empties higher feeders won’t be able to reach low levels of food so place at least one near the very bottom of the bucket.

Sand each opening to remove any sharp plastic edges.

Place each elbow followed by the rubber seal and screw on the cap to hold in place.

Fill bucket with feed and place the lid on top.

This project takes about 15 minutes.

For my 4 chickens I only need to refill it every 3-4 weeks. This makes it easy to go on vacation. Friends or family checking on my chickens don’t need to worry about refilling the food.
